The protesters returned to the streets despite President William Ruto dismissing the Finance Bill 2024, which initially sparked the demonstrations.

They ignored the president’s offer to engage them and promised to continue rallying every Tuesday and Thursday until their demands for reforms are met.

The pertinent issues raised by the youth concern taxation, national debt, unemployment, and corruption.

TUKO.co.ke shares some of the most memorable photos captured from the streets during the protests.

1. Gen Z defence forces

One of the photos that will remain etched in Kenyans’ minds is of a young woman who went on the streets with a wooden club.

A photo captured her scuttling across the streets with her club on her shoulder.

In an interview with journalist John Allan Namu, the woman disclosed that her name is Immaculate and she was a peaceful protestor.

“She found herself picking up a baton to protect people and businesses from goons who had allegedly been sent to steal from them,” Nnamu wrote.

2. Coffins on the streets

A group of protesters showed up for the demonstrations with empty coffins as part of their props.

They abandoned them along Nairobi’s Moi Avenue before police officers carried them away.

The coffins were meant to pass a message that they were mourning their countrymen who were killed in earlier protests.

3. The newspaper man

Amid the chaos and running battles, one man chose to seek peace and read his newspaper.

It is not clear what message he intended to pass, but the comfort with which he skimmed through the paper left many amused.

“How they find peace in chaos baffles everyone,” read one of the comments.

4. Tom Mboya statue “rejects” Finance Bill

In another hilarious moment, a photo captured the Tom Mboya monument in the central business district.

The statue was draped with a “Reject” placard, suggesting it was speaking up about the issue.

That was not all; the protestors also put a mask on the monument’s mouth to protect it from the teargas that had filled the environment.
