How did things unfold at Quaffee Point?

In a widely circulated video online, the hotel owner, dressed in a blue Kanzu, is seen standing in front of the hotel.

Protesters were observed shouting at the business owner and throwing stones in his direction.

The owner, who appeared to conceal a gun in his Kanzu, raised one hand, possibly signaling for the protesters to cease throwing stones at him.

During the incident, a protester struck the owner of Qaffee Point Hotel with a rock on his shoulder. In response, the man fired his gun at the protester, who subsequently fell to the ground.

The protester who was shot was then moved away from the vicinity by his fellow protesters.

What did the DCI say about the incident?

On Tuesday, July 2, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement announcing the arrest of the owner of Qaffee Point Hotel.

The unit reported that the business owner shot and injured two individuals around 1:30 p.m. They confirmed that the civilian firearm holder was subsequently disarmed and is currently in lawful custody.

“The reported two persons who suffered injuries are receiving medical aid, and we pray that they will recuperate fast,” the statement read in part.

The DCI also expressed gratitude to members of the public who promptly took the injured individuals to the hospital.

They also urged residents of Mombasa to remain calm as appropriate legal measures are pursued in the case.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that a protester, attempting to retrieve a tear gas canister launched by the police, tragically lost his fingers.

Distressed and in pain, he was photographed holding his injured hand while seated on a motorbike, with fellow protesters looking on.

President William Ruto, acknowledging the protests and the issues raised by the youth concerning taxation, national debt, unemployment, and corruption, expressed his readiness to engage in dialogue with Generation Z to address these concerns.
