In a statement on Wednesday, July 3, Sonko condemned unnamed people linking him to the violent protests in the Nairobi CBD.

The former governor dismissed allegations that he hired goons to loot shops, buying the coffins for protesters.

“I have seen people who like tarnishing my name by spreading cheap propaganda and lies with their fake intelligence as. I was the one who organised for the goons to loot in CBD na coffins to be brought to the CBD as well. Here is the correct intelligence: The coffins were purchased within the city. They were ferried to the CBD in a blue canter,” Sonko said.

Which role did Sonko in anti-finance bill protests?

The outspoken politician defended his association with the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters, disclosing that he only donated ambulances for rescue missions.

According to Sonko, Gen Z requested his support, which saw him donate drinking water to protesters.

“People should stop tarnishing my name by claiming I took ambulances to CBD with goons. I wish to confirm to the public that it is our lovely young people who requested for the assistance of my professional medics, ambulances, and drinking water from day one of their peaceful protests, as a parent, I complied and offered to help. I don’t regret it,” Sonko added.
