Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, better known as Jalang’o, has rejected the proposed salary increase that will see his pay rise by KSh 14,000.

Reacting to the report on the pay rise for senior state officials, the lawmaker said the rise was unnecessary, given the country’s crisis.

Jalang’o jokingly wondered whether the commission wanted the parliamentarians to face harsher treatment from the members of the public.

The increase was gazetted by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

“There are things that almost look like a setup! We are in a crisis and SRC are proposing an increment of KSh 14000 ! Yaani mnataka tupigwe tukufe ndio mfurahi? Mimi sitaki,” he wrote.
