Nairobi – Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has linked Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders to the ongoing anti-government protests.
During an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, July 3, Duale claimed that opposition leaders were spearheading the push by protesters for President William Ruto to resign.
According to Duale, Gen Z protesters did not coin the ‘Ruto must go!’ slogan that recently dominated chants during the anti-government demonstrations.
The Defence CS claimed the now popular slogan was coined by opposition leaders such as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna.
“Ruto must go slogan is not a Gen Z slogan… it is Kalonzo Musyoka, it is Kioni, it is Miguna. It is a traditional cabal group of people who are not Gen Zs, who have not recovered and who cannot wait for 2027.

“Those are words that are coming from those who should occupy their places in the opposition, traditional people who never voted for Ruto, and we respect their views, but Ruto is the President today,” Duale said.

Duale said the creators of the anti-Ruto slogan are hell-bent on using it on social media platforms with the hope of succeeding Ruto before the 2027 presidential poll.
“You cannot do a regime change through Twitter space. I think the Gen Zs have been hijacked, they said they are tribe less and leaderless. Are Boniface Mwangi, Babu Owino, Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, Kioni and Wamalwa Gen Z?” he added.
