The NEA portal contains a list of over 8,300 employers, 3000 adverts and 148 training institutions.

While engaging the youth on X spaces on Friday, July 5, Ruto said he was working day and night to secure employment opportunities for young men and women.

He cited the bilateral agreements signed with several countries, including Germany.

“Some people have been asking me why I am travelling abroad frequently. I am trying jobs for our youth, and I have signed several agreements,” Ruto said.

When asked by an X user about the application process, he said:

“There is an online government portal, neaims.go.ke, where jobless youth can access opportunities.”

Why did Ruto engage with the youth on X?

Ruto held an interactive three-hour session with Kenyans on X on Friday from 2pm to 5pm.

The online conversation addressed national issues such as debt, taxation, unemployment, and corruption, which Gen Z raised during recent protests.

Ruto’s decision to engage on X followed his commitment to discuss matters of national interest with young people, stating his readiness to hear their concerns.

When questioned about his frequent promises, which have upset some Kenyans because of their perceived lack of results, Ruto explained that he made them with a specific timeline and pledged to engage the youth and deliver to the country effectively.

How many jobs were created in 2023?

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Economic Survey Report 2024 showed that 848,200 new jobs were generated in 2023.

Key sectors that registered growth were modern and informal industries, with the exception of small-scale farmers.

New jobs created in the formal sector grew by 4.1% to 122,800, while self-employment grew from 168,100 in 2022 to 172,400 in 2023.

In the informal sector, 720,900 new jobs were created, accounting for 85% of all the new jobs created in 2023.
