What was the reason behind the minors’ fainting?
The fainting incident led Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to instruct that they be provided with milk.
A 16-year-old boy collapsed after stating that he was hungry following the protest.
Under the guidance of Senior Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu, the judiciary arranged and supplied milk upon learning that both minors and adults had gone without food for over 24 hours.
Among the 185 protestors who were arrested during anti-government demos, 18 of them were minors.
The court observed that children are vulnerable members of society who deserve humane treatment.
“Children are vulnerable members of the society to be treated humanely.I order that they be released with immediate effect on a personal bond of Kshs 10,000 by their parents,”Nyamu directed.
What decision did the court reach regarding the minors?
The 18 minors who were brought before court were issued with a personal bond of KSh 10,000.’
A personal bond is a written agreement where an arrested individual commits to attending all scheduled court appearances and pledges not to commit any offenses during the period covered by the bond.
They were represented by a group of 17 lawyers from the Law Society of Kenya, with Faith Odhiambo leading the team.
Other advocates who appeared pro _bono for the protestors include James Wanjeri ,Soyinka Lempaa and ,Mwaura Kabata .The matter will be mentioned tomorrow for Thursday (Today) for further directions.
