KMPDU Threatens Mass Action if Govt Fails to Post Medical Interns By July 7: “Occupy MOH”

Nairobi – A fresh battle is looming between the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the Ministry of Health.

On Thursday, July 4, the medics unveiled plans to hold protests at the Ministry of Health Offices in Upper Hill.

What happens of Ministry of Health fails to post interns

KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atella said the union members will stage mass protests on Monday, July 8, if the government fails to address five key issues.

“Based on the RTWF dated May 8th, intern doctors were to collect their posting letters by July 7th, 2024. The same was promised to us by Susan Nakhumicha in the presence of the president in the State House. We have therefore decided to occupy the MOH day and night starting on July 8th,” Atellah said.

KMPDU raised five issues, including the immediate posting of all medical interns and their payment as per the collective bargaining agreement.

The medics also want the Health Service Commission established and the Linda Mama programme returned.

They further expressed their disapproval of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) whose registration process kicked off on July 1.
