He hoisted a banner at the entrance of the conference room reading “Press Conference. Unveiling the New World Cook-a-thon Record Holder.”

During the event at the city hotel, Chef Smith announced that he had established a new record for the longest cooking marathon.

According to African Insider, he had started his cook-a-thon on February 1, and completed it on March 6, clocking 802 hours and 25 minutes.

That meant that the chef had broken the record of Alan Fisher from Ireland with a marathon of 119 hours and 57 minutes in Japan.

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” he said at the press conference.

Guinness World Records dismisses Smith’s certificate

However, it is emerging that Chef Smith was not truthful in his sentiments, as the Guinness World Records (GWR) dismissed his claim.

According to BBC News Pidgin, Alina Polianskaya, the PR Executive for GWR, explained that they were unaware of the record.

Alina branded Smith’s certificate as fake, adding that the true record holder for the longest cooking marathon was Alan Fisher.
